Pilbara Employment Forum and BeingThere

living-to-learn

A recent Forum held by the YMCA Port Hedland on Wednesday 26 November was a great success. “Employers in South and Port Hedland had the opportunity to see firsthand the facilities and support available for apprentices and trainees at Mirnutharntu Maya.  The forum also provided an opportunity for employers to tour Mirnutharntu Maya, the newly constructed 48-bed accommodation facility that has been built to provide affordable, supported accommodation for trainees and apprentices.” MIRNUTHARNTU MAYA November 2014 MEDIA RELEASE

Donna Selby –  Mirnutharntu Maya Manager – said the recent Forum also utilised BeingThere Video conferencing for linking to various speakers across the state and interstate as an additional highlight of the event. The VETnetwork Australia presented on its Mentoring Apprentices Australia Program in South Australia and the Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation delivered a presentation on the Regional Jobs to Community Program; as well as various guest speakers from Perth.

Due to the remoteness of South Hedland being 1600kms North of Perth, the BeingThere Video Conferencing allowed for a better quality of speaker and a “significantly bigger and better drawcard” for the Forum.  Donna said the use of video conferencing technology not only improved the quality and scope of presenters for remote events but was also a huge cost saving to the organisation. Flying in two guest speakers from South Australia and Perth alone would have cost in excess of $6,000.

The use of video conferencing was a great novelty factor for the Forum attendees and the high standard of the BeingThere technology was like “virtual reality” for the audience. “The attendees enjoyed the interactive nature of the presenters through video conferencing and it brought a whole new dimension and interest to the audience” Ms Selby said.

A previous user of BeingThere video conferencing at PCDG (Peel Development Community Group), Donna was able to bring together the event with a fast turnaround. “The service provided by Gerry and BeingThere made the one-off use of video conferencing possible. BeingThere are very supportive and really do go the extra mile. The BeingThere service and technology is absolutely brilliant and there’s nothing else like it.”
Mirnutharntu Maya hope to use BeingThere again – it is a perfect forum for offering quality speakers at events, even in remote locations and with limited budget. For more information on using BeingThere Video Conferencing at your next Forum or event, please contact Gerry or Pam on 1300 891 551.
